Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency enthusiasts have been hoping for the intersection of crypto and established investing for a while now. Exchange-traded fund provider REX is hoping to introduce two Bitcoin-based ETF's, which are Exchange-Traded Funds. Those are funds that trade on the stock market.
Naturally, the SEC, the Securities and Exchange Commission, would have to approve! But, the push to make it happen is there, so it is sounding like the possibility could become reality.
Cryptocurrency enthusiasts have been wanting to know when there would be a stock market play for Bitcoin, Blockchain or mining. This week, it happened! HIVE Blockchain Technologies is now trading on the Canadian TSX Venture Exchange, and as an OTC stock on the U.S. market.
HIVE is buying mining time off of Genesis Mining, who is considered the leading cloud mining supplier. HIVE proposes to use their capital to do mining and produce income. It should be interesting to see how it all pans out.
Now, there has been Bitcoin Investment Trust (GBTC), which is traded on the OTC market. But, that is basically just a bunch of Bitcoin. You can directly buy Bitcoin on many well-regarded exchanges, making GBTC fairly redundant. HIVE is actually a company that is directly engaged in the Blockchain.
Now, folks, this is speculative stuff! It's up to you if you're going to spend money on this. But, I basically just took money generated from my bond funds and bought a smaller amount of the OTC. You can invest in the Canadian stock directly through certain brokerages. I have only dipped my toes into two OTC stocks ever. This one, and Tencent of China, who provides internet products, similar to those of Baidu, who are on the regular U.S. stock market.
Jóhann Jóhannsson (or as I call him, Jo Jo) ;-) is out as composer of "Blade Runner 2049." In is the ever-reliable Hans Zimmer. But, Zimmer isn't being well-received as a replacement by all! There is a #StopHansZimmer hashtag running around. The article above goes into it.
Otherwise, I thought that Villeneuve used Jóhannsson as his regular composer. Apart from that, I have low confidence in this sequel being worth that much. The first film is perfect, and ends perfectly. Zero reason for a sequel. But, if the money potential is there, Hollywood's going to do it anyway! :-P And, where the heck is Vangelis? I know he hasn't done film composing for a while, but I hope that they at least TRIED to get him for this thing. We'll see what Zimmer does, but I'm not pre-ordering the soundtrack. :-)

JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon has gone to war with Bitcoin. In a set of angry remarks, Dimon said that Bitcoin is only good “If you were in Venezuela or Ecuador or North Korea or a bunch of parts like that, or if you were a drug dealer, a murderer, stuff like that, you are better off doing it in bitcoin than US dollars.”
Naturally, anyone whose fortunes are rooted in the traditional economy are going to be threatened by cryptocurrencies. It's just entertaining to watch someone so publicly lose their @#$% over it!
Entertainingly, Genesis Mining, who provides Bitcoin mining services, is having a lot of fun with Dimon, putting up billboards mocking him!
I am still getting used to cryptocurrency! Hey, I've only been researching it for about 10 days now! But, one of the more interesting aspects is the world of ICO's, Initial Coin Exchanges. These are the crypto versions of the stock market's IPO's, Initial Public Offerings.
In this case, companies are offering tokens to the public for the first time. These tokens can later be converted to cryptocurrency. Kin is an Ethereum token being offered by Kik, the Canadian company that runs the messaging app.
Registration closed this past Saturday, September 9. I missed it, so I will have to watch from the sidelines. It should be interesting to see how it goes! There are other ICO's currently going. The most prominent are KickICO, which concerns ICO's themselves, and Social, based in Social Media.
First reviews are out for "It," the much-anticipated Stephen King horror adaptation!
Taking on the first half of the mammoth Stephen King novel is a daunting task! But, filmgoers will be able to decide how well it came off starting on Friday!
Colin Trevorrow is out as director of "Star Wars: Episode IX."
It is being called a "mutual decision." But, time will tell what the real story is. No replacement named as of yet.
This marks the third shake-up in the director's chair for a Disney-released "Star Wars" movie."Rogue One" saw Gareth Edwards put to the side when Tony Gilroy took over reshoots and final edit. And, the Han Solo film saw its directors let go, with Ron Howard replacing them.
