Artificial Intelligence Energy Use Multiplies
Article: The environmental impact of the AI revolution is starting to come into focus - The Verge
Artificial Intelligence could need as much energy as a small country. But, that could be a worst-case scenario. For instance, if every Google search used Generative AI, that could require the same amount of electricty as used by all of Ireland. That addition of Generative AI means a tenfold requirement in electicity. However, the efficiency of AI is also on the rise, with the training of AI models having become as much as 100 times easier, meaning a similar reduction in the electricity needed.
