Massive Amount of Electricity Needed for Wyoming AI Center

Article: Cheyenne to host massive AI data center using more electricity than all Wyoming homes combined - The Associated Press

Artificial Intelligence is wanting to use insane amounts of electricty. Now, a new Wyoming data center will use more electricity than it takes to power every single home in the state.

In a time where Climate Change is causing massive wildfires, floods and tornadoes across the country, adding to it with more electicty needs is only making things worse. Zero emmision energy sources like Nuclear Power are what we need before we add so many AI Data Centers like this.

Google to Use Nuclear Power for Its Artificial Intelligence

Article: Google goes nuclear to power AI data centres - BBC

Artificial Intelligence takes A LOT of electricity! So, finding new sources of power is underway. Now, Google is partnering up with startup Kairos Power to build many small nuclear reactors. It is the hope of Google, and others like Microsoft to use these zero-emmision sources of energy to power their AI. Microsoft just signed a deal to restart Three Mile Island's intact reactor for its energy needs.

Three Mile Island Reactor to Come Back Online

Article: Three Mile Island nuclear reactor to restart under Microsoft deal - Yahoo! Finance

Microsoft and Constellation Energy are financing a plan to restart the healthy Number 1 nuclear reactor at Three Mile Island. Plans are to have it back online by 2028. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will have to fully sign off on this before it happens. This is the case with all nulcear projects in the United States. This includes the new project by Bill Gates, who has broken ground on a new kind of nuclear power plant in Wyoming.

When it comes to Artificial Intelligence, massive amounts of electricity are needed to make it run. Nuclear Power is a zero-emission energy source that only produces steam. No CO2, no chemicals like mercury being sent into the atmosphere like with coal or natural gas.

Google's Artificial Intelligence Causes 50% Emissions Increase

Article: Google’s emissions climb nearly 50% in five years due to AI energy demand - The Guardian

Article: Google’s carbon emissions surge nearly 50% due to AI energy demand - CNBC

Artificial Intelligence takes A LOT of energy and Google's emissions have gone up 50% since 2019, primarily driven by AI. So, no matter what Google's pledges are to reduce emissions, it is all being undone by its massive use of AI.

And, even with that, it has to be considered that Google is lagging far behind smaller and much smaller companies when it comes to advances in AI.

Bill Gates Starts Construction of Nuclear Power Plant

Article: Bill Gates is breaking ground on a nuclear power plant in Wyoming - PBS NewsHour

Artificial Intelligence needs electricity, A LOT of electricity. And so, Bill Gates, who helped create Microsoft, has broken ground on a new kind of nuclear power plant in Wyoming.

Being built next to what will be a soon-to-be-decommissioned coal plant, this nuclear plant will be the first in the world to use sodium as the cooling medium instead of water. In a time when water is starting to become more scarce in parts of the world, using a different mode of cooling for nuclear power plants is very important.
