The Problem with Terrence Malick's Movies

Terrence Malick's newest film, "Song to Song" clearly highlights his ongoing problem: The lack of using scripts! Malick's latest set of movies beginning in 2011 had one good one, 2011's "The Tree of Life." And yet, that went too far in stripping its characters of dialogue and the ability to flesh out their characters. The subsequent three have all been nebulous, unfocused, and have essentially robbed Malick's audience of receiving one more decent Malick movie. Terry needs to stop and refocus, even if that means we don't get another movie from him. Better that than another disappointment.

Christian Bale stars as a successful screenwriter who has lost his way and finds himself adrift in Southern California. The film stars many other noted actors, as well as having Malick's collaborators, including cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and production designer Jack Fisk.
