Artificial Intelligence Music Companies Get Sued

Artificial Intelligence Music could be taking a hit as Suno and Udio, two leading AI music startups that make tools to generate complete songs from a prompt in seconds, were sued by major record labels. Sony Music, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group claim the companies made use of copyrighted music in their training data “at an almost unimaginable scale,” allowing the AI models to generate songs that “imitate the qualities of genuine human sound recordings.”

What effect this will have on AI Music is left to be seen. But, as in many legal actions like this, it could essentially serve as a way to leverage an agreeement with the AI Music companies on licensing fees.

I have been using it for a while now, and I would like to offer my Tips & Tricks for how to get the most out of the AI Music platform.

 ⦿ 200 Character Maximum - You have a maximum of 200 characters for your prompt.

 ⦿ Vocal or Instrumental - Use the "Instrumental" toggle if you want an instrumental only. Otherwise, Suno will produce vocals.

 ⦿ Genre - Be as specific as possible about what Genre of music you want. If you want "Jazz," there are many kinds of jazz. For instance, I wanted "Hard Bop Jazz" which is a specific type of jazz from the 1950's and 1960's.

 ⦿ Use ChatGPT for Help - I have found that using ChatGPT can help in describing what you want. For example, I input this: "Please give me a 200 character prompt to get an Artificial Intelligence Music program to create a Hard Bop Jazz instrumental with a lead saxophone in the style of Charlie Parker." ChatGPT returned: "Produce a Hard Bop Jazz track featuring a vibrant saxophone lead, channeling the improvisational brilliance akin to the style of a renowned bebop saxophonist."

 ⦿ You Can Use Artist Names - You can use an artist name in your prompt. Suno will then interpret this for what it will use to generate the track. For instance, I input this: "classical Hard Bop jazz instrumental with distinctive improvisational and modal 1950s saxophonist lead in the style of Charlie Parker." The program interpreted this as: "instrumental hard bop jazz sax lead."
