"Gravity" Film Review
Trailer: "Gravity" Trailer - Warner Bros.
Excellent suspense film! Even though there is the Science-Fiction backdrop, the movie is, at its heart, a suspense film, as two astronauts try to survive after their shuttle gets hit by space debris. As seen in the trailer, we spend a good amount of time following Sandra Bullock's character. And, thus, the film ends up being kind of like "The Perils of Pauline," with Bullock going from one calamity to another!
The Visual Effects are very impressive! But, what makes the film work is director Alfonso Cuarón. He directed what I think is easily the best of the "Harry Potter" movies, "The Prisoner of Azkaban." He treats his characters as humans, instead of just playing pieces on a game board. What he does is to not get himself too caught up in the Science-Fiction and Fantasy genres. He sees the humanity in the characters, and that's what makes his films work.
The 3-D is very cool! The cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki is excellent. He shot "The Tree of Life," and has been working with director Terrence Malick on his past few films.
What I didn't like was the film score by Steven Price. He has done a few films, but while he gets the tone just right in many of the quieter sequences, he gets quite overwrought in the action sequences. That bothered me, and distracted me. I would have preferred a composer like Tangerine Dream, who worked on films like William Friedkin's "Sorcerer" in 1977 and Michael Mann's "Thief" in 1981 and are still active today.

App That Tracks the Ups and Downs of Sex
Article: Spreadsheets: The New App That Tracks Your Sex Life’s Ups and Downs - The Daily Beast
App: Spreadsheets - Ardenturous Labs
For those of you who get to have sex (you know who you are!), there is an app that helps you track important items like Duration, Thrusts, Decibels, etc. The app uses the device's accelerometer and microphone to make the calculations.
While it doesn't actually make audio recordings of your "sessions," it does allow you and your partner do post-game analyses. Whether you decide to post or not post the stats is up to you!

"A Time to Kill" Found Guilty by Reviewers
Review: A Time to Kill Review - New York Times
Reviews List: A Time to Kill - Did He Like It?
Official Site: A Time to Kill - Broadway
John Grisham's novel, "A Time to Kill" has gone to the screen, now it goes to the stage. With a stellar cast of stage and movie stars, a lot went into the production. But, it sounds like the end result doesn't measure up.

Article: New Sony Mirrorless and Cybershot - B&H
B&H sent me their latest newsletter, highlighting a new Sony mirrorless system, plus a new Cybershot. The Cybershot, in particular, is one of the fancier point-and-shoots you're likely to see!

Bourdain's Cinematographer Provides Great Images
Review: Bourdain's Cinematographer - NoFilmSchool
"Anthony Bourdain - Parts Unknown" features the Passive-Aggressive, self-loathing host, Tony, plus something for us cinematography fans: the work of Zach Zamboni. You can tell which episodes have had more time put into them by how many beauty shots Zamboni is able to get shot and included in the show!
